Lake Huntington, Huntington Beach Central Park

Lake Huntington is a man made lake filled with ducks and geese and enjoyed by all who wander into Central Park. Activities around the lake include walking, jogging and roller blading, bicycle riding, walking the dog, the equestrian center, disc golf, picnics, playgrounds and dining near the lake at Alice's Breakfast in the Park.  There is play equipment for special needs children and informal Sunday morning outdoor services have been held in the park with people pulling up lawn chairs to share in communion and prayer.

At one time, boaters paddled around the lake in rowboats and wheel paddlers. Today, boats are not allowed on the small lake which is haven for ducks, geese and other waterfowl.  While people delight in feeding the ducks, such feeding practices have created major problems such as botulism which killed birds previously. Always a threat, the public is asked to leave bags of popcorn, cereal and bread at home. Park rangers say it is the biggest favor you can do for the birds.  See Don't Feed The Birds

The Huntington Beach Disc Golf Course features a downhill slope near the lake where it is possible to lose you Frisbee or Innova flying disc in the water. This provides an exceptional challenge for course play of the 18-hole (basket) course located up the hill on Golden West Street.

Alice's Breakfast in the Park overlooks Lake Huntington and HB Dog Park and Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center share views of the lake, as well. Shipley Nature Center also is in close view of the lake.

Except for reserving the shelter, picnic tables and grills scattered throughout the park are available on a first come first serve basis.  People will often head over to the park as early as 6 AM on a weekend to stake out a space for a birthday party or company gathering.  The park is that popular.  Pine trees, large green fields and paved paths meander around the picnic tables which are spread comfortably apart from each other.  An unusual street which is painted more like a parking lot than a street, Central Park Drive can even fill up and require guests to park across Edwards Street on the other side of Central Park Drive.  Many cities have a place called Central Park and we hope that each spot is as fortunate to offer the beauty of a green oasis within the busy city.

Located in the heart of Huntington Beach, Huntington Central Park consists of 350 acres of lush trees, fields, foliage and six miles of trails. Park entrances can be found on Edwards, Golden West, Gothard, Slater, and Talbert Streets.
