Free Summer Concerts Held
Outdoors
The City of
Huntington Beach enjoys numerous outdoor summer
concerts with a fantastic line up of bands for
the public to enjoy free of charge. From
concerts in Central Park to Concerts at the
Beach, nothing is out of reach when you have
access to so much great music in one little
city. Band information is provided for
your interest and like all events, is subject to
change per organizers. Below is a
list of venues, featured bands, times, locations
and additional information.

In 2010, the Surfin' Sundays Concert Series has a new reason
to come and enjoy the concert. The opening of
the
Shorebreak Hotel offers a location no more
than a block or two to the concert itself.

Huntington Beach,
Calif. offers one of the best free summer concert series
programs on the West Coast. The concerts are all held
outdoors in perfect weather this region is known for,
and the concerts bring some of the finest, diverse
sounds to the city that is home to outstanding musicians
of all genre.
For tourists
visiting, the easiest concerts to attend are walking
distance from the great beach hotels and resorts. For HB
locals, the drive to any of the concerts is no more than
15 minutes from most locations in the city.
The free summer
concerts hold a long tradition in HB. In addition to the
the Big 3: Surfing Museum; Pier Plaza City Sponsored
Concerts: and Central Park Huntington Beach City Band
Concerts; one concert series that disappeared several
years ago at Golden West College outdoor amphitheatre
now has been somewhat replaced with free concerts in the
courtyard at Bella Terra Mall.
Nearby concerts
we've also enjoyed are a free summer concert series at
Eisenhower Park overlooking the beach at Seal Beach;
Westminster Civic Center Plaza concerts; Long Beach
concerts at MarketPlace, and several parks, and free
concerts at the bandshell on Balboa Peninsula
overlooking the Balboa Pier.
Huntington Beach
paid concert series BBJAZZ features monthly smooth jazz
concerts that are held at Central Library Theatre and
hotels during the holidays. These concerts charge a fee
(usually begins at $35 - up) and the proceeds benefit
special causes. |

The Swing Cats Big Band The Swing Cats re-create
the exact sounds of the 30's, 40's, and 50's as well as the
music of today. Reminisce back to the swingin' sounds of
Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington,
Harry James, Tommy Dorsey, and many others.

International Surfing
Museum Concerts

The popular concerts in the Museum
parking lot are coming back for another
season. Over 100 different bands from
all over Southern California and the
world have performed for the Museum. The
concerts feature the original 1st wave
60's era bands to the 2nd wave bands
from the 70's and 80's to the current
3rd wave bands. The concerts are two
Sundays per month from April to October
in the Museum parking lot. Occasionally,
the concert series moves to the Pier
Plaza Amphitheater.
Huntington Beach Band Concerts at
Central Park
Band Shell
Concerts in Huntington Beach are offered free
during the summer and are held overlooking the
beach at Pier Plaza (Pacific Coast Highway at
Pacific Coast Highway), International Surfing Museum (Olive and
5th Street) and Huntington Central Park (Golden
West at Talbert). They are held on Saturday or
Sunday except during special holiday events. Concerts
begin at 5:00 PM and are FREE to the
public. The
location is at the Central Park band
shell behind Central Library.

The concerts bring jazz,
funk, rock, pop, blues, Cajun,
classical, swing, surfing, Rhythm and
Blues, Rockabilly, Soul, hip hop and a
variety of types of music to this
band-progressive town where live bands
are featured every night of the year in
local pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs.
Free concerts are available in public
open-air concerts at Pier Plaza,
Huntington Beach International Surfing
Museum parking lot and Huntington
Central Park. Golden West College
used to feature free outdoor summer
concerts but currently only offers pay
concerts with student and faculty
performances during the school year.
Also
available for a fee are top wave artists
appearing on KTWV, brought to the city
from the well-connected Bennish team
that raises funds for Autism. Those
concerts are featured throughout the
year in the Huntington Beach Central
Library and Cultural Center and a
special Concert in the Park is held in
September with a full day of smooth jazz
from top artists.
Many
fantastic musicians come from Huntington
Beach. One of the original surf bands,
Jan & Dean is
fortunate to have Dean Torrence living
in Huntington Beach. There's jazz
composer and pianist, Keiko Matsui. One
of the members of Korn owns Tuna Town on
Main Street. Tom Kubis at Golden
West College is world renowned for his
jazz compositions. Music is the heart
and soul of Surf City.

was once a night club bringing top
artists to the city to perform.

The City of
Huntington Beach enjoys numerous outdoor summer
concerts with a fantastic line up of bands for
the public to enjoy free of charge during the
months of May through September. From free
afternoon concerts overlooking the famous
Huntington Beach Pier and Pacific Ocean at
cement amphitheatre style Pier Plaza seating, to
parking lot concerts at the International
Surfing Museum and old-fashioned picnic basket &
blanket concerts in the sun or shade of the
naturally-sloped hills behind Huntington Central
Library at Huntington Central Park, tourists and
local residents delight in these community
events. This shared experience where music
floats through the sweet, summer air of a
comfortable beach city helps the well being of
all who partake. Music and its harmonic sounds
are as basic as the forms of communication
utilized by birds inhabiting the beaches and
parks.
Southern
California enjoys a wealth of talented musicians
from around the globe who bring their musical
styles to Huntington Beach. The summer season
celebrates the harmonious spirit that makes
Huntington Beach shine bright! Don't be
surprised to find folks hopping out of their
seats, singing, dancing and clapping to the
beats of the many musical styles featured. Naida
Osline of the City of Huntington Beach
tirelessly seeks and finds the greatest talent
and unique variety of music for the Pier Plaza
Concerts. At the International Surfing Museum
Linda Miller has taken the surf genre to a new
level. She has booked an incredible list of
surfing bands known throughout the musical
community. Attend one of the Surfing Sunday
Concerts and you'll be amazed that the players
are top notch. At Central Park, the Huntington
Beach Band, a community volunteer band is
featured along with an incredible line up that
includes the likes of Tom Kubis. A composer and
musician known throughout the world, Tom Kubis
is a local talent in great demand for his
complex and creative compositions.
One thing is
for certain. When you attend one of the free
summer concerts in Huntington Beach, you won't
get what you paid for. You will receive the
finest music from professionals artists who
enjoy playing to the receptive crowds Huntington
Beach is known for.
