Shopping for gifts in Huntington
Beach is a breeze with hundreds of shops and stores
offering unique presents, clothing and art. This is
the place where swimsuits are sold year-round in Diane's on
Main Street near the beach or
Kookies on Pacific Coast Highway. In Huntington
Beach, clothing attire tends to be lightweight and casual;
styles that begin on the cutting table become cutting edge,
created from designers and trendsetters such as Quicksilver,
a Huntington Beach company riding the wave of a $3
billion-a-year surf wear industry. With the largest number
of surfers coming from California, it is no surprise that
Quiksilver, Roxy, Billabong USA and O’Neill are based in
Orange County, the heart of OC cool.

Beach is cool and so is its shopping. When Huntington Beach
Mayor Cathy Green appeared on the Sharon Osbourne Show, she
accepted the key for The OC TV series.
Huntington Beach is located in the real OC (Orange County)
and is considered the heart of cool as program staff knew
when they picked it. Hollister stores got on the bandwagon,
too, and began broadcasting live video feeds from Huntington
Beach in their shops. 5 Points
Plaza specializes in youthful attire, women's
fashion and discount gift buying.
In
downtown Huntington Beach along Main and 5th Streets you can
purchase nearly anything you want.

If you seek
something out of the ordinary, an item that simply isn't
manufactured today, be sure to visit the historic
building listed on the National Register. Built in 1904,
M.E. Helme Furnishings Co.
Antiques is located off Main Street on Walnut within
view of Baskin Robbins Ice Cream store. From an Elvis
Presley record, G.I. Blues to military uniforms sold,
the store has one-of-a-kind collectibles you won't find
elsewhere. Coins, jewelry, hats, gloves, dresses,
children's play houses, furniture, glass ware, crystal,
china, ceramics, books and thousands of treasures fill
this huge shop that has served as a furnishings retailer
for over 100 years since Matthew Helme began the
business. Family members still own and operate the shop.
For a spin on California Greetings, try
Kookies. It's been around for several decades
selling not only beach items but also beach themed pillows,
ladies boots and accessory gifts. You are in for a treat in
this shop at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Warner
Avenue. Also downtown on Pacific Coast Highway at 11th
Street is a
beautiful ocean view home
for sale. It's
a
gift that only a small percent of buyers might consider, but
the stunning ocean views from nearly every room spell
luxury, Huntington Beach style.
If you want something totally HB, you can
buy a surfboard and surf clothing from a number of shops.
Jack’s Surfboards and Huntington Surf and Sport, the anchor
stores for downtown offer surf apparel, wetsuits and
accessories as well as surfboards, skateboards and
snowboards. Their clothing lines include skirts, shirts,
tank tops, jackets, jeans, shorts, sandals and much more.
Be sure to check out their ever-changing window displays
that entertain with bold graphics and video clips
occasionally.
Jewelry
retains its value and makes the perfect gift for special
events, holiday giving and every day enjoyment. There's only
one place in Huntington Beach that we have researched and
can recommend for quality 18K gold and designer gold
necklaces, watches, rings and pendants. Be sure to visit
Noal's Jewelry Designs, Inc. in
Marina Village Shopping Center. The owners are honest,
hard-working community-involved individuals who have been in
business for 18 years. They enjoy selling quality products
that make people feel good. They offer extended holiday
season hours. Owners: Nouha and Albert Hreish.
Noal Jewelry Designs, Inc. -
5492 Edinger Ave. Suite 108A Call: (714) 840-5558.
Other
shops to enjoy include:
Anderson Gallery, Surf Shops and much more.
One of Huntington Beach's oldest
commercial store fronts dating to the early 1900's, M.E.
Helme, sells collector and antique items, plus porcelain,
silverware and coins. There are also old-fashioned antique
and collector-themed stores such as Sprindgale Drug and
Gifts and Combest General Store, where you can find rare
treasures, as well.
Combest General Store is located at
Huntington Beach Mall which is under construction and
renovation and will be replaced by a new Tuscan-style center
called Bella Terra. The village-style center will include an
entertainment court, an amphitheater and a 20-screen cinema
multiplex as well as restaurants and retail. The mall
currently enjoys anchor tenants Barnes & Noble, Mervyn's,
Burlington Coat Factory and Kohl’s, plus Staples, Macaroni
Grill and See's Candy. Coming to Bella Terra
was
REI
and other great shopping opportunities. Already opened at
the mall are Kohl's, Burlington Coat Factory, Barnes & Noble, See's Candy Store, California Pizza Kitchen,
Macaroni Grill, Good Guys, Staples and more!
Huntington
Beach malls include one consistently chosen by Orange County
residents as a favorite place to shop, 5 Points Plaza. The
Gap/Baby Gap, Old Navy, Tilly's, Chico's, Omaha Steaks,
Trader Joe's, Mikasa, Farm Boy, Pier 1 Imports and many
other shops will keep you occupied for several hours. There
are restaurants such as Mario's to feed your body and get
you re-energized for your next round of spending.
Huntington Beach offers a unique blend of
boutiques and gift shops in close proximity to the giants
such as
South
Coast Plaza. Within 15 minutes you can drive to the
monster mall that calls itself a resort, or visit outdoor
Fashion Island or indoor
Westminster Mall. Some other favorites we enjoy are
The Block at Orange
Upcoming in Huntington Beach is a new
development called The Strand, planned for downtown in the
first block near 5th and 6th Streets. It will include stores
Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria’s Secret and Express, as well
as restaurants and a 149-room Residence Inn by Marriott. The
Strand is expected to open in mid-2005.
The city's newest Business
Improvement District elected its seven-member advisory board
in September 2004. Over 30 merchant representatives
attended, with 12 merchants nominated to the advisory board. The Huntington Beach
Downtown Business Improvement District went into effect on
October 1, 2004, and is expected to set policy on issues
concerning the shopping and dining experience in downtown
Huntington Beach, especially along Main Street.
