US Open of Surfing and Beach Games

us open surfing

 at Huntington Beach Pier

Each year thousands of exuberant sports-lovers gather for the ultimate beach party--US Open of Surfing and Beach Games in Huntington Beach. Southern California's Number One rated beach event attracts standing room only crowds to Huntington City Beach near the Huntington Beach Pier for surfing, bmx & fmx cycling, skateboarding, and great live, concerts on the sand.

From a beach village with bongo sessions, game rooms, hula hoop and limbo contests, to food & beverage samples galore, the beach event offers incredible free entertainment from morning to night.

The general layout begins somewhat sleepy and slow. The event starts off with simply surfing competitions. Ranked as a 6 star WQS (world qualifying series) event, many have argued the ranking is too high for the type of waves that occur typically in July & August in Huntington Beach (just a few years ago one surf set offered totally flat conditions, a first for this event and a real bummer for world-class surfers who sat and waited for the waves). But from a financial perspective, the U.S. Open Huntington Beach stop is an attention-grabber worth its salt water in exposure for the surfing industry and surf contests. So while the surfing isn't always the most exciting, the event and beach have never been hotter than the U.S. Open in HB.
