Huntington Beach Photos of KTLA Broadcast

On Thursday, July 28, KTLA WB Channel 5 of Los Angeles did an "on location" broadcast at Huntington Beach. They featured the city's assets, activities, housing market, surrounding neighbor cities and interviews with City Council members, as well as talk with a variety of locals. Held during the US Open of Surfing and Beach Games, the surf concert stage was utilized for their set design.

Over 150 locals came to cheer their favorite broadcasters, watch the morning weather report, view a family build a sand castle on air and watch surfing lessons given to the first families to show up for the broadcast which began as weather reports at 6 a.m. and on location programming from 7 to 9 a.m. The event occurred as a result of a local citizen, Chris MacDonald, who watches the show each morning, enjoying a previous feature segment on the City of Cerritos. MacDonald contacted Cathy Green, former mayor of Huntington Beach, asking if she would formally invited KTLA. Upon his request, Green did extend the invitation and heard back from the station that would like to visit Huntington Beach and feature it one morning.

MacDonald keeps in touch with the newscast team and has recommended they submit the segment for an Emmy award because he believes the production was so well done and the crew and cast provided such informational, in-depth material to make the show have lasting value.
