Surfing America Sets Dates for 2005 USA Championships and USA Surf Team Selection The event slated to help ring in Independence Day Weekend in
Huntington Beach, CA

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA ' February 16, 2005 ' Surfing America, the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of Surfing in the United States, today announced confirmed dates for the 2005 Surfing America USA Championships and USA Surf Team Selection event.

The event will run from Monday, June 27th ' Saturday, July 2nd on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier.

"This is a great news,' said Mike Gerard, Surfing America's executive director. 'What could be better than a Surf City USATM location to celebrate the best up and coming surfers in the United States'and what better time than leading into Fourth of July weekend' We look forward to working closely with the City of Huntington Beach as we strive to grow this event annually for a long time to come.'

'We are extremely proud that Huntington Beach has been selected to host the Surfing America USA Championships and USA Surf Team Selection,' said Doug Traub, president and CEO of the Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau. 'This'along with the fact that US National Governing Body, Surfing America, is headquartered here'reinforces our position as Surf City USA headquarters. The whole package is a perfect fit for us. We look forward to keeping this prestigious event on our calendar as a kick off to the Fourth of July holiday for years to come.'

Surfing America is recognized as National Governing Body for surfing and body boarding by the International Surfing Association (ISA). ISA is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for surfing.

After being awarded NGB recognition last spring, Surfing America held its inaugural USA Championships and USA Surf Team selection in Huntington Beach last summer. The USA Surf Team's junior athletes (short boarders under 18 years of age) then went to Tahiti in December for the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships and made a strong statement to the international surfing community by bringing home the Silver Medal. The Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships, held annually, will come to the USA this
October and will be hosted by Surfing America.

'We've come along way since securing the National Governing Body status less than a year ago,' said Scott Daley, Surfing America's President. 'And locking in these Huntington Beach dates for the USA Championships and Team Selection creates a tremendous platform for future growth. We'd like to thank Surfing America's Member Organizations: ESA, HASA, NSSA, TGSA, and WSA for their hard work and collective efforts on behalf of the sport and its athletes. Also, we really appreciate all of the support we've received from the City of Huntington Beach and we look forward to a growing relationship with Surf City, USATM.'

Surfing America is an IRS recognized 501(c) 3 charitable organization. All donations made to Surfing America are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by the law. Donation checks should be made payable to: Surfing America, P.O. Box 309, Huntington Beach, CA 92648. End of year tax receipts are sent to every individual donor of more than $250. For donations under $250, a cancelled check or credit card statement is sufficient evidence for IRS purposes. Surfing America will send a tax receipt to any donor who requests one.
