Comment: The use
of looking through the pipe, manhole or other framed item can be over done
so I have learned to throw in a framed shot on technical stuff whenever
possible, but only as an adjunct. It gives the editor an option and works
well with other pictures such as were used in this assignment with a cover
story that jumped to an inside photo spread. The down side of using
frames such as this one is that they eat up the ink. In newspaper,
that means dirty hands for consumers and occassional complaints.
On the technical end of these assignments, always ask the workers if they
are supposed to be wearing goggles and gloves. Sometimes they forget and
if you shoot the assignment without the proper safety equipment, you might
as well throw it away.
