US OPEN WOMENS COMPETITION

Today the Honda Women’s US Open of Surfing presented by O’Neill attracts top international female surfers including 2004 & 2003 returning champion Chelsea Georgeson (Australia) and current women’s World Champion Sofia Mulanovich (Peru). These two Roxy teammates will battle it out, along side O’Neill team rider Hawaii’s Rochelle Ballard, for the 2005 US Open Title and a piece of the $30,000 prize purse.

2005 marks the first year that all ASP sanctioned WQS 6* (six star) events, including the Honda Women’s US Open of Surfing presented by O’Neill, must adopt a man-on-man competition format from the quarterfinals and on. This means that only two women will compete per heat and the duration of the each heat has been increased from 20 minutes to 25 minutes.

The Honda Women’s Pro will begin with the round of 60 Wednesday, July 27 and conclude with the finals on Saturday, July 30th.
