surfing museum

A ''reinvented' Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum was unveiled recently with nods of approval from all who have seen the elegant, new flooring and bright, open space, according to the museum manager, Cindy Cross. Funded by Huntington Beach Marketing and Visitors Bureau (HBMVB), the project was a partnership effort with the entity that holds the lease from the City of Huntington Beach, in an arrangement in which HB Surfing Museum pays rent to HBMVB.

Plans to install racks with visitor literatures are in the works, making the like-new venue which showcases antique surf memorabilia, a visitor serving entity in an enhanced manner.

A new exhibit in October 2013, "Fame," features 34 award-winning surfers in a collaboration of the HSS Surfers' Hall of Fame and HSS Surfing Walk of Fame, according to P.T. Townend, a museum board member who recently received a lifetime achievement award by Surf Industry Manufacturers Association. World-class surfing legend Townend says the exhibition is expected to remain open for an ' undetermined time through 2014 when the museum celebrates "100 years of Surf City."

Located at 411 Olive Street near Starbucks. If you haven't visited this neat, little museum, now is a great time to go. See: surfingmuseum.org
