Jeff Deffenbaugh, President of the HB Surf Series, takes the series to a new level with
Pro/Am and Specialty Events that aim to specifically benefit the competitors. 'There are so many great surfers in California right now. With the HB Surf Series, I'm looking to give surfers the opportunity to compete, while putting some money in their pockets,' said Deffenbaugh.

Deffenbaugh has enlisted the help of Propaganda Headquarters, Inc. to help with management and production of the series. Current sponsors of the 2005 HB Surf Series include: Wahoo's Fish Taco, Deidrich Coffee, Surfline.com, Orange County Register, Lost Energy Drink, and KROQ.

' As surfing continues to grow, its events like the HB Surf Series that will help build America's future surfing stars, said Vipe Desai, President of Propaganda Headquarters. About the HB Surf Series
Embarking on its 11th season, the HB Surf Series is a grass roots level surf series that gives local surfers an arena to compete and improve their talents. 2003-The HB Surf Series acquired by Pro Surfer Jeff Deffenbaugh!!!

Surf City, CA, April 14, 2003 --- HB Surf Series, formerly a Pro/Am Surf competition, is now under new ownership by the Deffenbaugh family of Huntington Beach, California. Brothers Jeff and Barry will take on most of the tasks at hand for the new surf series. They have participated in the HB Surf Series since its inception, and have had great success throughout the events as competitors.
Jeff has had an extensive background in competitive surfing as a former World Tour Competitor. He also is one of America's most decorated professionals in surfing history, and still maintains a high level profile in the competitive community. Jeff, "I'm extremely excited about acquiring the HB Surf Series after competing in it for so many years. Barry and I will be the creative forces behind the event and help the amateur's progress to a new athletic level by getting more involved with them on a personal basis."
Barry has also had an extensive background in competitive surfing. A former NSSA national champion and also winner of professional titles at the HB Surf Series, he has also spent time behind the glass as a top professional and amateur judge. Barry's thoughts, "I'm looking forward to being involved with the local surf community, not only those athletes with professional aspirations but also surfers trying to progress their skills at all levels. Having worked with Seth (former owner) for the past 6 years at the events, I now have the opportunity to take what I've learned from him and move forward with that knowledge to run top-notch events."
The Deffenbaughs goal is to help advance amateur surfers to the next level. They have a strong passion for surfing and plan to keep the HB Surf Series around for years to come. Previous owner Seth Matson will continue to be involved as a marketing/event planner for the 2003 season. Matson says" I'm really happy that the Deffenbaughs will be keeping the series alive. The series couldn't be directed by two better individuals. I think they will do an excellent job because of their qualifications and I for see a great future for the Deffenbaughs and the HB Surf Series."
The new season has been redesigned from its past Pro/Am format to become an all-amateur surf series. The HB Surf Series will hold four of six events at the most visible surf venue in the world, the famous Southside of the Huntington Beach Pier, California. The events will run for two-day periods, starting on Saturdays and ending Sunday afternoons. The level of competition and excitement increases throughout the day as the top competitors move toward the finals. The series now has nine divisions, which include: Rookie, Super Groms, Boys, Juniors, Mens, Masters, Grand Masters, Womens and Longboarding. Exciting new aspects of these nine divisions are the new Rookie and Grand Masters divisions. The New Rookie division is for the developing surfer who has not been as fortunate to make a final in the past years. This New Rookie division is focused on progressing their competitive surfing skills. The other new division is the Grand Masters division which is for surfers 37 years and older. The elder surfing competitor in the community has requested this division over the last eight years. Their input to the youth of the surf community is irreplaceable.
The new season is just around the corner with the first event starting in May and ending with a championship event in October. The HB Surf Series is now taking on new sponsorships.
