Scorpion Steak House is the most
successful restaurant and entertainment venture to open at the Adams and
Beach Boulevard building location that's been a series of Mexican
restaurants in recent years. Reviews have billed it as a trendy, waiting
dining and night club experience where cool, hip and trendy people come
with waiting room only crowds lined up to enjoy live bands. Reservations
for dining are even recommended for busy Friday evenings.
Compelled to check out the place and
see why one place fails but the next succeeds so well, we found the
decor is fairly simple but has some great accents and a huge bar that is
the centerpiece for the entire restaurant space. It is decorated with an
expensive brick. The steakhouse theme is carried through the place
with the Texas cattleman look and the takes with the scorpions is a
conversation piece. It separates a dining area from a room that serves
both for dining, bands, dancing and events catering. One employee tells
us the scorpions are not poisonous—but she won't touch them.
The steaks served are top quality, the
full cocktail bar delivers some mighty drinks and the beers on tap
include Bud Light, Stella Artois Import, Coors Light, Newcastle Brown,
Pyramid Hefeweizen and Stone Pale Ale 100% San Diego.
For a great dining experience, you'll
enjoy seating areas that are open within view of other diners. Some
include brushed leather booth seating and some offer chairs. The bar
area includes stools and small tables for cocktails and dining.
Decor throughout the restaurant
includes natural finishes of wood, tile, slate and stone plus accents of
silver and gold. The tile treatments break up the restaurant areas into
sections and provide a very rich look. We haven't tried the food
yet but have heard that the steaks are great and a new chef has begun
inserting special recipes into the mix for guests to try and enjoy.
In fact, we were told the menu will change soon with this new chef ready
to unveil some pleasant surprises.
