Slavin Family Story

Katie and Bill Slavin have lived in Huntington Beach for 22 years. Katie worked for the South Orange County Community College District. Bill was an engineer in the semi-conductor field.

The Slavins like the beach and the pier. They ride bicycles there; they walk there; and Bill likes to watch the girls play volleyball on the beach. They enjoy the concerts at the pier and Tuesday nights downtown.

On their first date they rode bicycles to the pier. They have attended the 4th of July Parade for 22 years. They have worked on the city's Rose Parade float. Katie has served as the coordinator between the float designers and the float builders. If you look on the plaque on the pier, you will find Katie's name. Like many HB residents, Bill and Katie are concerned about the Bolsa Chica area. They are members of and contribute to the Bolsa Chica Land Trust.

Animals are also important to the Slavins. They support the HB Walk for Animals. Katie has volunteered with the SPCA and pet adoption programs. While they have two cats at home, they are also supporters of the dog beach. Bill has a special charm with cats; one of his cats frequently rode with him on his motorcycle! Katie and Bill like to travel in their motor home. There's no word on how the cats feel about that!
