Olson-Grande Family Story

Krystin Olson-Grande
Robbie (16), Kaura (13), Austin (12)

General Motors, once a large employer in the area, brought Krystin Olson's father to Huntington Beach. Krystin grew up in the city and cherishes her memories of cool nights on the sand with a bon-fire blazing. She spent her youth biking to the beach and soaking up the Southern California sun. She remembers the beaches staying open until midnight! Another place she remembers being open late is the Golden Bear (1926-1986). You could see lines wrapped around the corner as people waited for the opportunity to see entertainers like Jimmy Buffet, Dave Mason, Jerry Garcia, and the local band from Downey, Van Halen. Though we still maintain an active nightlife on Main Street nothing has come close in comparison.

Krystin's fond memories encouraged her to establish her own family here in Huntington Beach. Her son, Austin, a dedicated surfer, remembers a day in the water when he drifted out to the end of the pier and was practically surfing with dolphins.

Kaura, a lover of writing, plans to become an author and publish children's books. Her mentor is Chris Epting, whom she met at Dwyer Middle School during a school program 'Author's day.'
Robbie and the entire family love Surf City Nights! 'It is a chance for the family to walk, enjoy Main Street, and engage with other community members' says Krystin. She adds, 'We live in paradise. This is a safe, family oriented, unpretentious community where everyone is at home.'
