Kilgore Family Story

Lyle and Eva Kilgore moved to Huntington Harbour in 1987 with their 3 year old daughter Paige. "After living in Los Angeles, we didn't want Paige to grow up in a smog-filled area," said Eva.

Lyle was thrilled at the move, having been a boater for over 25 years. Immediately, the family bought their beloved 40' boat "Newsbreak", an appropriate name since both Eva and Lyle were in the news business. Both soon got involved in many community activities. Eva eventually received the Allied Arts Board Volunteer of the Year award for her work in the Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee.

Eva's involvement in the Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee, includes serving as chairman 3 times and receiving the Allied Arts Board Volunteer of the Year award. Lyle was an active member of the Huntington Harbour Yacht Club. Paige attended Harbour View, Marine View, and Marina High School, and participated in the Academy for the Performing Arts and Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee Junior.

They are surprised more people don't take advantage of renting a kayak on PCH and taking a leisurely ride through the quiet waterways of Huntington Harbour. Just standing inside the historic Huntington Beach High School auditorium, built in 1928, is also a thrill. "Truly a work of art," says Eva.

These days, Lyle does voiceover work after retiring from KFWB, Eva is a writer for the Orange County Register, and Paige (who moved to Los Angeles briefly to act in such films as the remake of Bad News Bears and TV shows like Malcolm in the Middle) is back in Huntington Beach. She teaches Pilates at Viva Pilates in Huntington Harbour. Her boyfriend Sam, a Lancaster transplant, says HB is heaven on earth.

In 100 years "I think Huntington Beach will still be a go-to place not only to live, but to visit," said Eva.
