Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau
(HBCVB) CEO in finals for beach bureau
Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau
president and CEO Doug Traub reportedly has made the top four list
as a finalist for the
Panama City Beach
destination management organization (DMO), The Bay County Tourist
Development council. The information was released recently
that Douglas C. Traub is one of four finalists for the same post in
Panama City Beach, Fla.
"When a great opportunity comes along, you are a fool not to look at
it," Traub said to reporters, commenting that the move would put him
in charge of a much larger, potentially growing budget.
HBCVB annual budget is $1.3 million, while the budget
in Panama City Beach is $3.7 million, but could grow to $6 million
in the next few years, Traub stated.
Traub's possible departure
follows in the heels of City Manager Penny Culbreth-Graft, one of
three finalists for the city manager in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Traub has been with the
Huntington visitors' bureau for almost six years. He came to HBCVB
in December 2001, taking the helm from Diane Baker, who was hired as
the first president in October 1989. Baker ran the bureau for 12
years until late 2001.
Baker today is retired and
reportedly resides in Texas.
Traub was hired from a private
sector business and consulting firm he owned and operated, Traub
Consulting Group in Fayetteville, NC. Previous to that, he worked in
tourism and public relations at entities and nonprofit organizations
such as the Atlanta Zoo.
