October 2009
in Huntington Beach is only partially about the
beach. Activities shift to the Old World Village for
Oktoberfest, an annual celebration, and one of the
longest running Oktoberfest events in California.
If you think
you know how to chicken dance, don't strut your
stuff and don't chicken out till you've seen Old
World's nightly entertaining German band inspire you
to get out on the floor for some real funky dancing.
The general
activities include several free nights per week
(usually Wednesday & Thursday), adults only
entertainment with a cover charge on Fridays and
Saturdays, and Kids Day on Sunday afternoons with a
bouncy house, games, the live band, and sometimes a
Wiener Dog competition. That event has a small fee
but you can often find a coupon to save on
admission.
During the
month, the fun is in the beer hall at Old World
German Restaurant, but as the month ends, heads
toward the beach for some Halloween fun. Halloween
on Main Street, a kid and family-friendly event
features several hours of trick or treating, a
petting zoo, pony rides, bouncy houses and booths
with activities for youth.
For the City
of Huntington Beach Centennial celebration, there
are some community-involvement activities during
October. Look for a city beach party from Tower 5 to
Beach Boulevard on October 3. On Oct. 4 Blessing of
the Waves is held on October 4; Procession of Light
on Oct. 11, and a prayer breakfast at the Hyatt
Regency Resort & Spa is planned for October 23,
2009. If you feel like you're a member of this
community, or hope to be, these events are public
invitation activities that you may enjoy during the
100 year birthday party of the city's incorporation
as Huntington Beach. HB (Happy Birthday)to you, HB
(Huntington Beach)! |
