Downtown Huntington Beach BID
Organization Presents Father's Day Weekend
Chili At The Beach Benefiting
CHOC
Huntington Beach, CA
05/05/08—The Huntington Beach Downtown Business Improvement
District Organization (BID) announces Chili at the Beach. The
Surf City Chili at the Beach event will occur on Saturday, June
14 and Sunday, June 15, 2008 on Main Street downtown. The event
will begin at 11 a.m. both days, and close at 7 p.m. on
Saturday, 6 p.m. on Sunday. Entry to the event is free, while a
ticket that allows the buyer to sample and judge all the chili
costs $10.
There will also be raffle
tickets on sale. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit
Childrenʼs Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).
“It is an honor to contribute
to CHOC through the Chili at the Beach event. Encouraging
families to come downtown on Father's Day weekend to enjoy the
variety of activities in the fresh air and sunshine at the beach
is key to having a successful downtown environment. I would like
to thank all the BID Stakeholders that have shared their time
and talent to make sure that this special weekend could take
place,” said Connie Pedenko, Executive Director/Consultant for
BID.
Main Street will be closed to
traffic for the event, with business exhibits, food, and
entertainers in the three- block closure. There will be
children's activities including inflatables, a climbing wall, a
jousting display and more!
On Saturday, there will be a
chili cook-off. Ten participants are donating ten gallons of
chili to the event, and will compete in several different
categories—Best Tasting Overall, Most Creative Name of Chili and
Most Enthusiastic Booth. Purchase of a ticket provides the buyer
with a ballot to rate each chili.
When the ballots are in, all
ballots where the judge has tasted every chili will be tallied
within each category, with winners being announced on Sunday,
June 15, alongside a variety of Father's Day specials—some just
for dad—at businesses downtown. After the winners of the Chili
Cook-off are announced on Sunday, the event will culminate with
the declaration of the dollar amount raised and a check being
awarded to a representative of CHOC.
Michael Moroneso, the Chili
at the Beach Event Task Force Leader and Manager of Surf City
Harley-Davidson on Main Street, said of the event, “I would like
to thank Harley-Davidson of Westminster for allowing me to take
the time to lead this event. It is a privilege to work with CHOC
and the BID to serve the community and help bring success to
downtown Surf City USA.”
