New Yards Wide Beach Offers 10 Parking Places, SUP Launch

An old piece of land that once was a popular baby beach for moms & toddlers has a new role as a kayak and stand up paddle launch.  It has no official name so we’re calling it yards because of its yards-wide size. It comes with 10 parking spots, and soon will have fresh, new landscape, thanks to the design work of a Tustin landscape architect, Guy Stivers. Orange County Coastkeeper was the only group in a number of years to file a request for keeping the beach open to the public and maintaining operations at the little barren piece of land owned by Huntington Harbour Yacht Club. The land has been dedicated to public use for the public to enjoy. It’s no longer appealing as a sunbathing beach, but it suits sports enthusiasts just fine. It is considered a great spot for beginners to launch their paddle boards and kayaks from a small bay and gentle waters. It’s not as exciting as Surf City’s acquisition of the one-mile long Sunset Beach which extend our HB beaches to 9.275 miles of coastal access, but any beach is a delight in a city where life’s a beach.
